A Christmas Rejoicing

Let’s clear up something, before we remember together the reason of Christmas. Jesus was born in a manger and it wasn’t because his family was poor. Caesar Augustus, Roman Emperor, decreed EVERYONE pay taxes. Joseph had money to pay taxes (he was there for that specific reason) and also had funds to room at the Inn. The Inn was simply and obviously full from the influx of Jewish folks in town paying taxes. In addition to that, please realize that it would have been impossible for the Wise Men from the East with their caravan and also for the visiting shepherds, to all visit as a group and respond how they did in a tiny hotel room. Outside was a much better venue. It was NOT a small thing that they beheld and how they each responded (Matt.2:10-11 and Luke 2). Although a humble beginning, Jesus was just fine being born in an animal’s trough and wrapped in swaddling clothes. It’s the fact Jesus came in the first place and why He came that is the Hallelujah!

So why did He come?

We know from the Christmas accounts in Matthew and Luke that His name was to be called Jesus AND that He is Christ the Lord. Christ is not Jesus’s last name. Christ means He is the “Anointed One”. The Bible makes clear that the anointing breaks yokes and bondages. Jesus said and constantly preached and demonstrated of Himself (words and action) that He was anointed specifically for freedom, forgiveness, deliverance, healing and breaking the back of true lack. Jesus came for the whole man. This is all the kind of Good News and glad tidings the angels proclaimed at His birth. On the whole of the earth, PEACE, which in His Word connotes full salvation, nothing missing, nothing broken.

Why did He come? First of all, He is all alone our Savior (Matt. 1:21; Luke 2:11) and He saves us from our sin and from the effects of the fall of man and the death system (in this life and the one to come) brought about by Adam’s fall. It is Good News that “for this purpose, the Son of God was manifested, to destroy the works of the evil one” (I John 3:8b). Jesus came for a purpose. He won! He has the keys of hell and of death (Rev. 1:18b) and we are completely delivered from the domain of darkness (Colossians 1:13). Yet, it’s not just what we are delivered from. It’s what we are blessed To. We are blessed by Him, with every blessing in heavenly places (Eph.1:3b). Now. In this life, right now. Not just later after we pass.

Christmas is truly a proclamation of deliverance for every single one of us. Any way you cut it, we all first have to be saved at a point in time from our sins. We all have stuff. It needs to go. This is your time if you never asked Him into your life. No works on your part are necessary at all. He did all the work. This is a free gift. You simply have to genuinely ask, repent of your sins and receive the free gift.

More Good News –  He made us new and has adopted us as sons and daughters. You have your whole life ahead of you. Fill yourself up with Him. Do mighty exploits for God. We are also guaranteed eternal life in heaven when we die in this earth life. No one is left out. It’s up to you, personally.
