Psalm 121:5-8
5- The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade on your right hand.
6- The sun will not smite you by day, Nor the moon by night.
7- The Lord will [a]protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul.
8- The Lord will [b]guard your going out and your coming in From this time forth and forever.
I often like to envision some of the beautiful language presented in the Bible that gives us descriptive words about God. What a great way to make God more personal in our everyday walk versus being viewed as far away and distant. Go with me!
- God is keeping me! What does it mean to be kept? It means to be retained in one’s possession or power. Wow! Just thinking about God’s power keeping me enlarges my heart with such gratitude.
- God is my shade! When I visualize shade, I think about being protected, hidden, and covered from a variety of situations. I won’t become parched by life’s scorching trials and tribulations. The sun cannot smite me because He provided me with the perfect drink, Jesus Christ. The scriptures below sum it up perfectly.
John 4:14
But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
Revelation 7:16-17
They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
Let’s look at one more.
- God is my guard! He’s the one assigned to protect and oversee my life. I don’t have to live in fear or trepidation because God has sworn Himself to me. I can relax in the assurance that safety is present. I merely have to tune my ear to His voice and walk in the provision He provides for me in my coming and going from this time forth and forever.
It’s amazing how envisioning these descriptions of God have opened my perspective, even more, to trust in Him. I hope they boost your trust as well.
