January is the time of year filled with great excitement and expectation that the new year will bring new opportunities, new doors and an increase in every area of our lives.
We begin the year with great messages centred around great themes stirring individuals to believe that somehow, some way, this new year will not be like the last.
Many make promises, resolutions, commitments that they are going to lose weight, gain weight, save more, eat better, treat themselves –
The challenge though, is someone followed you into the New Year from the old year- and this someone knows you better than you even know yourself.
That someone is determined that things are NOT going to change, that you will stay positioned in the same old habits, ways, and mindsets that you struggled with in 2019. It’s important to them that you do not change because change means that they will lose, and they don’t want you to lose your friendship, your camaraderie, your companionship.
The individual that followed you into this new year is YOU!
Paul instructs us to “Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.…” Romans 12:2
Things changing around us is not the key to change! A new slogan or theme for your life is not the key. The key to change is the release of one thought in exchange for another one. To make the exchange, one needs to assign a value to current thought and value to the new thought. The old thought needs to be devalued, the new thought assigned a higher value and then put into practice.
God has provided us with a book full of His thoughts, His ways, and His will. As believers, our challenge in 2020 is to want Him more than we want our way. One by one, we must choose to devalue and let go of our thoughts, opinions, and habits – things we have held onto for years and make an exchange for His. This is FAITH in action! As we begin to practice His Word, we will find ourselves walking in His will. We will find ourselves living them out until they become a way of life.
I encourage you, one thought at a time. Change your life in 2020 by choosing God’s ways over yours. 2020 will be a phenomenal year – if you are ready to change your mind. And by changing your mind you’ll have a brand new you!
