Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,

Look to Him
I recently experienced the death of a dear Elder who spoke such encouragement into my life. It was a heartbreaking moment to realize their life’s journey had come to such an unexpected end. To be honest their death hit me harder than I anticipated. It’s in times like these that a foundation set upon God’s faithfulness can be crushed or shaken.

Things didn’t turn out the way I hoped or prayed for leaving questions about God’s faithfulness trying to blind me versus having me look to Him in my time of grief. Here’s the key-all the promises of God are steeped in who is perfecting my faith. That perfecting factor is Jesus.

Hebrews 12:2 Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
When I let emotions speak they will steer me every which way but Jesus. Jesus is where my trust must reside and be built upon. When I look to Him I receive the comfort that assures me that God is indeed faithful.

It takes my feeding upon the Word of God as I look through the lens of Jesus to remain solid and secure. The hurt of this loss is still painful but I know that God is with me and giving me the strength to see beyond the hurt to His faithfulness.

2 Timothy 2:13If we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself. 1 Corinthians 1:9God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

I take refuge in this passage of the word of God. The second half of Isaiah 40 is largely focused on the greatness of our Lord, and concludes with a very encouraging passage.

In a world that encourages people to do everything themselves and it focus is on individual achievement—this is a very encouraging passage. You don’t have to rely solely on your own strength, the Lord will give us what we need to do what he wants us to do. Though, it may seem difficult while waiting, but, Psalm 27:13-14 says, “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and-—take heart and wait for the Lord.”

It is also worthwhile, however, that in order to receive the strength of the Lord, we must first recognize our weakness and wait on the Lord. Going to the Lord in humility and allow him to fill us with strength to do what we are called to do.

To wait on the Lord; Is to hope and trust in the Lord. Which requires Prayers, Faith, Patience, Humility, Meekness, Long-suffering, keeping the commandments, and enduring to the end.

He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.
Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted;
but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. [Isaiah 40:29-31]

Yours In Christ, Shalom.

Plain as it can be, there is nothing more
important in life for the Christian to realize and walk in than the Love of
God. Both of the two great commandments are all about Love.

Sounds so basic, doesn’t it. Except,
too many Christians don’t realize it and it becomes a distant concept.
Our revelation of it can be limited and it’s not in our experience near where
it should be.

I am not trying to make anyone feel
bad. I am merely trying to awaken us from at least occasional
slumber. Me first, if you will, because I’m the one talking about it and
I need to bathe in God’s Love afresh like any of us.

Of all the attributes of God revealed in the
Word of God, there are only two things the Bible says God Is (as
opposed to God possesses). One of them is God is Light (I John
1:5). The other is God is Love (I John 4:8,16). The Apostle John
(a/k/a the Apostle of Love) speaks of the Love of God more than any other
writer (respecting that Pauline’s revelation had some phenomenal things to say
about God’s Love). The thrust of ‘God is Love’ is simply and
profoundly, that He just doesn’t have it. He is it. He embodies
it. Every single thing about Him is Love.

Therefore, we should be emanating Love.
Because we are made in His image and likeness. In other words, just like
Him. “As He is, so are we in this world.” (I John 4:17)

Obviously, a great deal can be shared about
the Love of God. What I want to share in this writing is a picture of the
Son of Man in action, in a period spanning only two days, here on this earth,
when He was operating as a Man, specifically, a Man with God in Him.
Jesus is our role model, bar none. And what emanated out of Him, in the
most significant and trying times, was Love. If He could do it, we can do
it.

Please note: as I have shared in other
writings, Jesus walked in authority at all times and He only said and did what
the Father was saying and doing. You cannot walk in God’s Love, unless you
are walking in the authority that God gave you. You have to know who you
are in Christ, by knowing who He is. That is the only way one can stay
above the circumstances.

So come with me to Gethsemane and
Calvary. This was merely a two day period, both Gethsemane and Jesus
crucifixion. Capital punishment/execution was carried out quickly under
Roman law.

You and I know the agony that Jesus suffered
in the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus knew this was the time that He had to
carry out what no one else was able to do, for the sins of the whole human
race. I do hold that the greatest part of Christ’s agony at Gethsemane
was that He knew that He had to be completely separated from His Father, even
for a brief time. All of this that was happening was so extreme,
that the Bible tells us Jesus sweat blood. That is a condition medically
called hematidrosis, where blood
vessels that feed the sweat glands rupture, under extreme emotional stress.

So Jesus is in and coming
out of this extreme condition, when Judas shows up with his bad band of
men. And not far into the initial exchange, one of bad guy’s ear is
lopped off by sword. What does Jesus do? What does Love Himself
do? He heals and restores the man’s ear (Luke 22:50-51). Who does
something like that? And who does it under what He was feeling and
facing? The answer is Love does that. Someone who is in control of
His circumstances and Love comes out. Can you even imagine what that guy
with the cut off ear likely felt?

The following day is all
about Jesus’ trial and crucifixion. The Jesus I am talking about here is
someone who was whipped 39 times with a whip of leather and metal pieces on
several of the ends. This is the Jesus who was being mocked, punched in
the face, having his facial hair torn out, smitten with sticks, having a crown
of large thorns thrust hard down on His head. The Bible says He was so
pulverized, that He was unrecognizable. Then, after that, nailed to a
tree, with large spikes, through His hands and feet.

Does Love Himself remain in
control of His circumstances and feelings? YES! Does Love Himself
emanate Love, in a myriad of ways, as He hung on that tree, innocent of all, in
excruciating pain, and still wanting not to experience His Father having to
turn His back on His Son? YES, our Jesus did that very thing. For
you and for me.

Jesus is hanging on the
Cross. Do I need to describe the physical condition He is in?
And in John 19, we read that Love Himself took the time, to ensure that
John would take great care of His mother following His death. He was
looking out for someone else, and not Himself. That’s Love in action.

And if circumstances were
not screaming to get the better of Him (but He was walking in authority and
Love), what else do we see?

We see Love Himself
declaring that those who were grossly mistreating Him and putting Him to death
be forgiven (Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do :::
Luke 23:34). Can you and I do that? Can we do it under the circumstances
Jesus was experiencing?

Then there’s Luke
23:39-43. The two thieves. And there goes Love again, taking the
time, while suffering as He was, to love that one thief and assure him of his
imminent salvation. Wow!

Is anyone breaking down in
tears just yet, like I am? How do you do this, Jesus?

Finally, in what I see as
the utter trust and love between the Father and the Son, Jesus
commits His Spirit (Luke 23:46) as He enters His moment of death and as He goes
off to conduct further business (like take the authority back, that God gave
Adam and all mankind, and that Adam had turned over to Satan in Eden. The
Second Adam is finishing the work the first one started. And at the soon
Resurrection and Ascension, all of mankind is redeemed and back in the saddle –
if, of course, one accepts what Jesus did).

More of Him. More of
Love Himself. Yielded. The cry of the heart.

The wonderful Good News is
that God’s Love is shed abroad in your heart and you are full of that
Love. We now need to flesh it out.

What the world needs now, is
Love, sweet Love. Love is a many splendored thing. All you need is
Love. Even the world knows it through songs and wants it.

Everyone wants Love real
bad.

Beloved, you and I are the
carriers of it.

“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either.” Luke 6:27-29

When you’re wronged, mistreated, harassed, and face opposition, you need to respond with kindness and love.

Jesus teaches us in Luke 6:27-29 to love our enemies and do good to those that hated us. Jesus called us to bless those who cursed us and pray for those who used us despitefully. He taught us that we should not return evil for evil but exhibit divine grace and love to reflect our heavenly Father’s beautiful characteristics.

But let’s be honest, who does that? Not many people! Nonetheless, it’s what sets Christians apart because it’s not a natural, popular, or easy response. It takes a lot of strength and courage to do good to those who oppose you!

Please understand, any idiot can fight back. Any coward can retaliate. Any moron can say something hurtful; even parrots can be trained to curse. However, the Lord wants you to love your enemies, do good to those individuals who hate you, bless the people who curse you, pray for anyone who hurt you.

Is that easy? No, not at all! But you can do it by being filled with God’s unconditional love.

One day, I watched a documentary about the Freedom Riders on PBS. They showed the Freedom Riders fighting against racism in the South during the Civil Rights Movement. The documentary explained how these courageous individuals were taught how to take a nonviolent stance and not retaliate when they were hit, spit on, cursed, pushed, or when people threw food at them.

As I watched the documentary, I thought to myself, “I want to be that kind of person for the Kingdom of God. I want to be that courageous so no matter what is thrown at me, I can respond with love and peace.”

When you refuse to retaliate and instead respond in love, God will be pleased, and I believe you will be blessed.

Matthew 5:10-12 says, “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in Heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

Let us pray…

Heavenly Father, thank You that, by faith in Christ, we have a new nature. We pray that we may live and grow more like the Lord Jesus in our choices. Father, we know and understand that we can never love those who hate and despise us in our own strength, but we pray that in Your grace and mercy, You would help us to make the correct choices, so our heart and mind align to Your perfect will; so that Your love flows through us to others. It is in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him! Psalm 34:8

When I think of a sweet place of refuge I imagine someplace tropical or far away from where there’s nothing but peace and serenity. Sounds great and wonderful but how do I get to that place now? When life is a series of to-do lists and an array of things that cause stress, worry & concern. Where is my sweet refuge?

The Bible says that there is a place of refuge that I can seek right now. That refuge can provide what I need to ride out the severest circumstances. Where is this place? Sounds like the right question to ask but the question is rather who versus where. The refuge is Jesus and He is the source of everything needed no matter how great the trials or tribulations.

“For he himself is our peace,” what a statement from Eph 2:14. In Him, we find freedom from disturbance, where we can experience the condition of being safe. Jesus told us in this world we would have trouble but He has overcome the world for us. When we dwell in Him we can take refuge under His wings (Psalm 61:4). The sweet place of refuge is everything in Jesus.

I have come to understand that there is a place that is so sweet and pleasing in the presence of Jesus. Life can’t dull it, stress can’t defy it, and concern can’t overcome it. A safe place that covers me and keeps me safe.

A sweet place of refuge in Jesus!

Jeremiah 1:12

Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it.”

I can count numerous times that I’ve crumbled in my walk with the Lord. Yes, Jesus was my foundation but what had I added to that foundation. Although I was constantly praying to God I still felt weak and ready to topple over because my circumstances and situations were overtaking me. What was missing?

The missing piece was an adequate framework to accompany my foundation in Christ. My framework wasn’t set in God’s Word therefore instead of receiving hope and victory to withstand the storms of life I was being blown over.

Don’t misunderstand me prayer is very important as the way to communicate with God, but it piggybacks off of God’s Word. The lack of God’s Word in my day-to-day life was a fatal flaw leaving me open to worry, doubt, and fear. I had to realize that God upholds His Word and if I wasn’t in agreement with His Word by faith then how could God move victoriously in my life? God’s Word is the framework that holds up to the wind, downpours, & veracious storms that try to crush me.

Once I understood to combine my prayers with the proper confession of God’s Word then things began to change. The winds of worry didn’t seem as strong, downpours of fear couldn’t steal my joy. The storms of doubt and destruction couldn’t push me over. With my foundation in Jesus built upon a framework of God’s Word I could withstand troubles ahead. Take a look at the scriptures below that helped me see how important God’s Word was to my foundation.

Matthew 24:35

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

Proverbs 30:5

Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

Isaiah 55:11

So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

In life, I will face circumstance and situations that will try to discourage and defeat me. The key will always be what am I believing and confessing concerning what the Word of God says as I stand on the redemptive work of Jesus. Will I proclaim my victory through a strong framework built on God’s Word or will I crumble because I haven’t sustained my foundation?

A honest talk about rejection as I work on building my brand.

Rejection is one of those negative experiences life seems to toss at us to keep things interesting. Only, instead of making things interesting, rejection often makes us feel bad about ourselves. At its most basic, rejection is the dismissal or refusal of an idea. It is synonymous with disapproval, negation, and elimination. It feels like a slap in the face—and it happens to everyone.

No one is immune to rejection, but some people do handle it better than others. Whether it creeps up in your work environment, home life, or social circles, it’s something we all have to cope with at different checkpoints in our lives. So how do we deal with rejection and move on? Here’s how to do just that.

Faith and Love are the two most important things in the Christian life that we must walk in. I have been teaching and preaching these two things for years now. Growing us up into strong believers, into believing Believers, into manifested sons and daughters of God, that get things done, is my purpose in life.

Today we will talk about faith. Part I in this article is WHY is Faith so especially important to God?

There are several reasons, here are some.

It is impossible to please God without it (Heb. 11:6a). That is an especially direct statement. It isolates something that God Himself is looking for clearly and without argument. He just wants us to believe Him. Hear His heart. His heart longs for this.

The Bible says in Luke 18:8b, that when Jesus cometh, will He find Faith on the earth? Note what He is looking for specifically. It does not say that He is looking for patience or holiness. It says He is looking for Faith. It’s really way up there in significance with Him.

If you read the Gospels, you will readily note that Jesus talked about Faith extremely often. This includes His mentions about Fear, which is the complete opposite of Faith or the archenemy of Faith. … One of the mightiest things Jesus said to each one of us and opens up all the floodgates in our lives is “all things are possible to him who believes.” (Mark 9:23b)

In His ongoing ministry, Jesus corrected and rebuked His followers regarding Faith probably more than anything else. Why? Because it is extraordinarily important to everything in life. The number of times Jesus said “O Ye of Little Faith” is just startling. (see Matt. 8:26; Matt. 14:31; Matt. 16:8; Matt. 17:20; Mark 16:14)

FAITH attracted Jesus more than anything else did. And it is precisely what got the people exactly what they were looking for. The Canaanite woman in Matthew 15:28 and her “great faith”. The centurion in Luke 7, where Jesus marveled that “I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!”. Blind Bartimaeus, Mark 10:52, it was his Faith that made him well. Same with the woman with the issue of blood, Matthew 9:22. Same with the paralytic healed in Mathew 9:2. Same with the subsequent two blind men whose sight was restored, Matthew 9:29. It’s FAITH that He is looking for.

By the sheer number of times it is mentioned in His Word to us and by the impetus of what it says, Faith is how we live, how we have life and how we master life as heads and not tails. “The righteous LIVE — by FAITH“. God didn’t say by joy. He didn’t say by conduct. He said by Faith. (Romans 1:17; Galatians 3:11; Hebrews 10:38; Habakkuk 2:4)

Paul teaches us in Ephesians 6, that we are to put on the full armor of God. All six pieces. But look closely at what God isolated as the “above all” in the armor. “Above all, taking the shield of faith” is what verse 16 instructs us as one piece of armor that really gets the job done in the battle, where the enemy is trying to defeat and compress you into giving up and losing.

The Bible teaches us that there is only one thing that obtains victory for us. FAITH. I John 5:4b says “and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our Faith”. If you want victory and want to be an overcomer, Faith is how it gets done.

When it comes to learning about what is particularly important to God and what specifically we need to get results, there is no wiggle room and there is no argument as to where Faith stands. It is something we should purpose to major in. It is in fact crucial that we learn Faith as a way of life.

Psalm 121:5-8
5- The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade on your right hand.
6- The sun will not smite you by day, Nor the moon by night.
7- The Lord will [a]protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul.
8- The Lord will [b]guard your going out and your coming in From this time forth and forever.

I often like to envision some of the beautiful language presented in the Bible that gives us descriptive words about God. What a great way to make God more personal in our everyday walk versus being viewed as far away and distant. Go with me!

God is keeping me! What does it mean to be kept? It means to be retained in one’s possession or power. Wow! Just thinking about God’s power keeping me enlarges my heart with such gratitude.

God is my shade! When I visualize shade, I think about being protected, hidden, and covered from a variety of situations. I won’t become parched by life’s scorching trials and tribulations. The sun cannot smite me because He provided me with the perfect drink, Jesus Christ. The scriptures below sum it up perfectly.

John 4:14
But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
Revelation 7:16-17
They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

Let’s look at one more.

God is my guard! He’s the one assigned to protect and oversee my life. I don’t have to live in fear or trepidation because God has sworn Himself to me. I can relax in the assurance that safety is present. I merely have to tune my ear to His voice and walk in the provision He provides for me in my coming and going from this time forth and forever.

It’s amazing how envisioning these descriptions of God have opened my perspective, even more, to trust in Him. I hope they boost your trust as well.

Psalm 103

This exhortation to bless the Lord often gets watered down in the routine of religious exercise. Bless the Lord. It is so frequently used and given as a directive that we forget that it is a privilege and a command, not a suggestion or something to be taken so lightly and casually. Bless the Lord. I am telling you today by the spirit of the living God that there is a mandate on the people of God to bless Him, to praise His name, to give thanks and to glorify Him and Him alone. Psalm 103 is one that hit me hard as I listened to Holy Spirit say remind them to bless the Lord, speak well of Him and exalt His name.

This passage of scripture begins with a command to our soul, our flesh man, our natural man, that part of us that desires to do what we want, when we want and how we want. Bless the Lord, oh my soul and all that is within me bless HIS holy name. It is apparent to me that there are times when we must speak to ourself with the voice and authority of the Holy Spirit and say self, I am speaking to my mind, my own will and my own emotions that often want its own way and is not always willing to wait on the Lord or submit to the Lord, I am saying to myself, SELF, Bless the Lord, oh my soul and all that is within me, BLESS HIS HOLY NAME!! You see I don’t care who is or who is not in the ruling seat of our government now, in the past or the future, GOD is still the only one we must worship.

Bless the Lord oh my soul, bless the Lord give Him praise, give Him honor, give Him glory, Speak well of Him and His glory, make known His deeds among all the people and the nations, bless the Lord oh my soul and ALL that is within me, bless His holy name! This addition of “and all that is within me” means that as a child of God, as a believer in His Son Jesus the Christ my worship should come from everything that makes me who I am, which is the Lord. My desires should be to please Him with my life, my hopes should be that He is pleased with my daily efforts to get to know Him more, my heart should be filled with His ways and my eyes should see His goodness in everything. My mouth should always speak well of Him and my heart and my mouth should line up in agreement about the things I say. Bless the Lord oh my soul, and we work at making sure that our words and actions are the same. Bless the Lord, give Him thanks and show Him love, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord and never forget all His benefits! Why is there a restlessness in the atmosphere and why is there a stirring in the spirit realm? Because we, the beloved of God who have access to all He provides have failed to remember His many benefits, His blessings. His favor that He pours out day after day after day. Forget not! There is a reason why David wrote these two words then and they ring out to us now, forget now! Don’t forget! Human nature has a short memory, and often once we are rescued from a trial, we forget how we made it out. Our memory is short and when we are sick we make promises to the Lord but when we get healed we forget that it was His hand that kept us, His healing that delivered us, and David says FORGET NOT all His benefits. What are they? David lists a few. David says He forgives all your iniquities, bless the Lord oh my soul. He forgives, oh what a benefit this is.Then He heals ALL our diseases, did you hear that! Not some diseases, but all of them. He heals my body, He heals my mind, He heals my condition, He heals my emotions. Whatever is putting us in dis-ease, causing us to lack peace, He heals it. Dis-ease, this is beyond sickness, this is a troubled mind, a wounded heart, a broken spirit, God heals it all. Oh beloved I don’t care what you are going through today in your body, don’t ever forget to bless the Lord. There is power in your praise, victory in your praise, there is joy and deliverance in your praise, never forget to bless the Lord!

God redeems our life from the destruction of the Pit of Hell, He crowns us with lovingkindness and tender mercies, He gives us faithful love and compassion, God satisfies us with good things so that our youth is renewed like the eagle’s. God makes provision for us to have the good things that we need so that our life is full and feels like our youth is renewed. These are the good things He gives to us and when we remember His Word we remember that in the time of trouble He said He will hide us, I have no reason to fear or worry. I remember that my God shall He shall wipe all tears from my eyes, He said that if He is for me who can be against me. When I remember this benefit and I bless the Lord, my countenance changes, my spirit is lifted, the color and the hope of life comes back into my face and my youth is renewed. I get a kick in my step, I get joy in my heart, I get hope in my heart because i remember not to forget His benefits! He satisfies my life with good things, bless the Lord oh my soul!!

As a worshipper I am sensitive to this command, bless the Lord. I hear it today ringing in my ears to bless Him and to remind everyone I can to do the same. It is only when we bless HIM that we can put our cares on Him, bless His name. It is only when we bless HIM that we can be confident that He will supply our every need. It is only when we bless HIM that we can rest even though we walk through the valley. Bless His name.

Beloved, this is His desire for us today, tomorrow and everyday that He gives us in the earth. That we would bless His name, that we would take advantage of His benefit package, that we would say like David, if I had 10,000 tongues it would not be enough to give you the praise that is due Your name. Today is the day we have been reminded to never forget.

Beloved today, bless His name, bless the Lord, bless the Lord forever and ever. Amen, amen and amen!!
