God’s Plumb Line

Amos 7:7-8

There are a whole lot of standards in the world today but when the pandemic hit, these standards were shaken. God said there would come a great shaking. The problem with all these standards is that they are built on weak foundations, personal opinions, and lies that come straight from the pits of hell. Furthermore, the only standard that matters is God’s standard but America has left God out, unconcerned about God’s agenda or what HE would have us to do.

But what is God’s standard?

God’s standard is HIS WORD, THE HOLY SCRIPTURE and to keep God’s standard is to do what God tells us to do. God spoke to us in years gone by and what HE spoke is relevant today.

Deuteronomy 12:32 “Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from. It.(see also deut.4:2,revelation 22:18-19)

Luke 4:4 But Jesus answered him; saying
” it is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God”

After Adam fell in sin, he tried to set his standard by covering himself with fig leaves (Genesis 3:7), when God was already his covering. The standard was already set and Adam knew not to eat off the tree but chose to disobey. Many times we sink into the trash heap of sin and try to operate in worldly standards. However, when we want to meet God, we must come up to His standard (His plumb line).

Nowadays people put things together and don’t even use a ruler but any good carpenter will have a plumb line. A plumb line is a weight suspended from a string used as a vertical reference line to ensure a structure is centered. It’s a way to measure the line and make sure that it’s perfectly straight. In constructing a building, it must have strength from side to side, up, and down. The cornerstone must be right or your building has no integrity.

Spiritually, we are not to build with the wood, hay, and stubble of our humanity. We need a firm foundation, good building materials, and a plummet. When we set the cornerstone, everything must be plumb (straight) to that, JESUS CHRIST is our cornerstone.

The Word of God is the straight line that you can’t add or take away from. The plumb line (HIS WORD) is the standard that God raises when the enemy comes in rushing like a flood. God put a plumb line between Himself and Israel (Amos 7:7-8) it is also the same plumb line that He has put between Himself, you, and I.

God’s plumb line is for every area of our lives, so we know how to behave, approach God and enter into His Presence. It is impossible to meet that standard on our own but that’s why Jesus completely relied on God’s plumb line (HIS HOLY WORD) and THE HOLY SPIRIT. (SEE Luke 4:4) when Satan came in like a flood, Jesus used the plumb line, raised up the standard (GOD’S WORD), and said “it is written”. Satan had to flee because he can’t understand nor meet the standard. When you deal with Satan in truth, he has to flee because there is no truth in him.

God has a plumb line of honor towards parents (Ephesians 6:1-3) Honor is not an option.
God has a plumb line of living pure and clean (Ephesians 5:3, 1Corinthians 5:11).

Every area of our lives is measured by God’s plumb line and whatever areas don’t line up with God’s Word will be off, crooked, and lack integrity. We must stand on the Word, not our opinion or our standard. We must train our families as believers to rely on the Holy Spirit to empower us to be able to meet the standard God has set.

We will be measured by THE BOOK!

 AMOS 7:7-8 KJV
And the LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumb line. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumb line in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:
