Living a Purposeful Life

There is a purpose for every one of us here on this planet earth. Each one of us has a purpose of why he/she was created. There is a greater reason why we are here in this World, God has a purpose and plans for each and every one. Jeremiah 29:11 makes us understand that our future and purpose are in God’s plans.

There is more to life than just being born, going to work all your life and eventually dying. The yet to be discovered truth by most is that, When each and every one of us was created by God, he deposited gifts, talents, ideas, and skills inside of us that we are supposed to birth and fulfill some form of purpose with it. It is imperative that we live a life of purpose because living a conventional life of merely living and dying would be a wasted life.

There is more to life than solely getting married and “living happily ever after.”There is a greater purpose than the superficial path that most of us try to follow. You are to make an impact and leave a mark in this world, in the peoples’ lives you come across. Encourage, inspire, and empower others, preach the gospel, volunteer, help the less privileged and the vulnerable, uplift the people around you. You have to basically realize your strength and give it all to the betterment of those around you and the World.

According to the Greek philosopher Aristotle, happiness is the highest good that humans seek. We also know that serving and giving brings happiness. This leads us to the belief that serving and giving is the purpose of living. Therefore, Purposeful Living is a life of serving and giving.

There came a time in my life when I felt lost, my spirit wasn’t at rest. It yearned for more than how I was living, I felt empty until i came to the realization of my purpose, which God was telling me, He created me to live a life of purpose, a life to serve. Honestly, a purposeful life is a whole different experience when you make a decision to use it to make a difference in someone else’s life and in the world. If you want long-lasting fulfillment and contentment, find out what you were created for and do it to the glorification of God. Great people like Myles Munroe, Billy Graham and Martin Luther King Jr. taught me that your name is not supposed to die with you. Let me leave you with this quote;”The greatest tragedy in life is not death, but a life without a purpose.”-Dr. Myles Munroe

What Is The Kingdom?

“Unless a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Those words must have felt like a ton of bricks being dropped on the ears of Nicodemus. The Lord Jesus was telling him “Nicodemus, a man cannot even perceive of the kingdom of God unless a renewing of the inner man has occurred.” The question is, how well do we understand the gravity of what the Lord Jesus spoke? Do we even understand what a kingdom is? Most people are taught that being born again is a religious experience, a moment of spiritual exhilaration achieved by deciding that they either believe in Jesus or have decided to make Him their Lord and Savior. In other words, being born again is their choice. But does that really make sense? After all, if we had no choice of being brought into this world, which is a temporal world, why would we think that we can ultimately decide if we will be citizens in God’s kingdom? Perhaps it is time for us to examine this idea of the kingdom of God more closely.

A GOVERNMENT, NOT A RELIGION

First and foremost, a kingdom is a form of government. It consists of a ruler, the king, a people, and a territory. While many people today think of a kingdom in terms of land, the word kingdom is a much broader concept. In the English language, we have only one word to describe this broad range of ideas. So the word kingdom can be used to define the rule or authority of the king, the era during which the king rules, the king himself, the nation of people ruled or governed by the king, and even the emblems owned by the king. The emblems include the king’s crown, his scepter, his throne, his robe, his signet, and any other instruments or items owned by the king that designate his authority. All of these attributes of a kingdom are governmental, not religious. A citizen that lives in a kingdom has the rights and protections afforded to him in exchange for his loyalty to the king. Just as your rights, duties, and responsibilities in the country that you live in aren’t religious, the same holds true for those citizens living in a kingdom.

A TOP PRIORITY IN THE NEW TESTAMENT

The kingdom is so important, in the book of Matthew we hear about it from John the Baptist before we see the beginning of the ministry of Jesus. In the book of Mark, the kingdom is the first utterance we see quoted from Christ Jesus. In the gospel of Luke, Jesus stresses that His very purpose for coming was to proclaim the kingdom. And in John, Jesus states that being born again is a prerequisite in order to even perceive the kingdom. In Acts, it is so important that the resurrected Christ spent 40 days teaching His disciples about the things of the kingdom prior to His ascension. Paul, at the end of the book of Acts, spent two years preaching the kingdom out of his apartment. And if you recite the Lord’s Prayer, do you realize you are asking that God’s kingdom come?

If the kingdom is a concept of such great importance to God, why do we hear so little about it today? One reason is that in the country we live in, we are taught to despise kingdoms. Our country is a democracy, founded upon the principle that all men are created equal. This message is in our foundational document, the Declaration of Independence. The drafters of this document made it clear to the king of England that he was no better than they were, and they were going to separate themselves from the king’s rule and form their own government. In short, they were rebelling against the king. This attitude has been embedded in our culture. We have no desire for anyone to hold sway over us. Ironically, this is the very thing that the Lord Jesus told His disciples they were to seek first; a kingdom where the Great King would rule over them as a people.

RENEWING OUR MINDS

Now, it is time for us to renew our minds to this concept of a kingdom. But how do we do that? Fortunately, the Lord Jesus provided us some direction to help us begin our journey. First, we must approach this idea of the kingdom as if we were little children. Children are fascinated when they see something new. You see the sparkle in their eyes and the smiles on their faces as they are completely captivated by this new thing in front of them. The kingdom of God has to fascinate us in that manner. There should be a desire within us to learn all we can about kings and kingdoms. Next, like children, we have to completely trust what God is doing. When little children obey their parents, they don’t do so for the sake of reward. They obey because they feel safe in the presence of their parents, and they will do what is necessary to maintain that security. This is the way we are to seek the kingdom. We submit ourselves to the rule of Christ by obeying the Holy Spirit, which is the voice of Christ in the earth today. By submitting to Christ, we are proving to Him that we trust in Him completely, regardless of the outcome of a situation. This submission is an attribute of our renewed mind. Finally, we realize that when we are called out of the world, we are called into a nation of people. We are no longer independent, as we learned in our society; instead, we are now interdependent. We need one another. When we are called into the kingdom, we are called into community.

Everything Gets Old but the Word of God

There is nothing better than the feeling when you get something new. As a child, I recall going to the store with my parents, and while in the store, mom or dad would say, “Get you something.” Wow! What excitement I felt! It was a feeling that I cannot quite express. I was overwhelmed with such a high level of exultation. It did not matter how big or small my new possession would be. All that mattered is that it was new!

Probably for most of us, we can recall our first job; we couldn’t wait to receive that first paycheck. In great anticipation, we would map out in our minds what we were going to purchase. As adults, most of us still get excited like this about getting new things.New homes, new cars, jewelry, clothing… but like in most instances, our new things become old things. Our emotions about those news things also shift.

“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9 KJV). This scripture informs us that everything that happens in the present has happened before in the past. Think about it. This is an existential cycle of life. The new becomes old, and we initiate the process all over again just to witness a carbon outcome.

But the Word of God never gets old. It remains new, refreshing, revealing every day. “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth, but the word of our God shall stand for ever” (Isaiah 40:8 KJV). Isaiah shares that the Word of God is everlasting and unlimited. Unlike objects and beings, which can be compared to the grass and the flowers, the Word of God does not age. We can find new hope, renewed peace, and lasting solutions through God’s Word.

God’s Word remains alive and effective!“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12 KJV). God’s Word is a highway to life. His Word is current, it’s life-changing, and POWERFUL. God’s Word reveals who we are as His creation (IN HIS IMAGE) and what we are not. His Word covers us physically, mentally, and spiritually. It gives us wisdom to separate good from evil and make right decisions. The Word shapes our lives and leads us to everlasting life. Now, that’s brand new for a lot of people!

God knows everything. He is the God of time and space. He is in control. However, to witness His manifestation, we must obey His Word. “Therefore, whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock” (Matthew 7:24 KJV). Nothing can be concealed from God. He is omnipotent—knows all. With His all-seeing eyes, He sees all we do and knows all we consider. We cannot attempt to be private when it comes to Him. His presence is everywhere. Therefore, abiding in Him is how we must live. His Word gives us a clean atmosphere and never gets old.

The Apostle Paul, who has a significant amount of writing in the New Testament, knew the worth of God’s Word. He knew the magnitude of spiritual consumption of the Word.His life was transformed by the Word. Because of His obedience to the Word, countless others have been saved and renewed by God’s Word.

“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” (Matthew 24:35 KJV). Therefore, if we really want to experience something new and that it remains new, the Word is what we fully desire. A fulfillment of God’s Word that never gets old.
